Christ in the Movies
Stories have a way of helping us see ourselves and sometimes even helping us recognize truths we have overlooked. In our Christ in the Movies series, we use familiar films and stories as a starting point for conversations about faith, life, and what it means to follow Jesus.
But I want to be clear: movies are not our Gospel. Jesus is. We aren't looking to Hollywood to tell us what is true, nor are we trying to force Christian meanings into every story. Instead, we bring the stories our culture is already telling into conversation with Scripture. Where a film echoes something true about grace, sacrifice, identity, calling, community, redemption, or hope, we ask what the Bible has to say and we also pay attention to the places where the Gospel tells a different or better story.
Our hope is that this series helps us become people who engage the world thoughtfully rather than consuming it. We believe God's truth can help us examine the stories shaping our imaginations and, ultimately, point us back to the much bigger story of Jesus Christ and the good news of God's Kingdom.
So yes, we'll talk about movies. We may even watch a few clips. But we'll open our Bibles, too. Because the goal isn't to discover the Gospel in a movie; it's to learn to see everything, including the stories we love, through the lens of the Gospel.

MOVIE NIGHTS at SWEDEBURG
Grab the family and join us for a FREE, family-friendly movie night! We’ll have the snacks covered with free popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, and more. Come around 7:00 p.m. to grab some food, find a spot, and visit with friends and neighbors. We’ll start the movie once everyone is settled in with their snacks.
Tonight, we’re moving the fun indoors! Thanks to an abundance of mosquitoes who apparently also wanted an invitation, we’ll be watching the movie inside the church. Come as you are, bring the family, and enjoy an easy evening together. Everyone is welcome!
